Where zodiac signs meanings and traits come from

A sign’s personality in astrology is built from its element, modality and ruling planet. Aries’ directness, for example, comes from cardinal fire and Mars; Pisces’ empathy from mutable water and Jupiter/Neptune. This is why signs of the same element are described with related traits.
